  6. Labor Day
Labor Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday of September in the USA.
This day celebrates the social & economic achievements of American workers and it is often regarded as a day of rest & parties, but in many places there are Labor union parades, then the workers and their families have a festival.

    First Labor Day…
On September 5, 1882, some 10,000 workers assembled in New York City to participate in America's first Labor Day parade, after marching from City Hall, past reviewing stands in Union Square, and then uptown to 42nd Street, the workers and their families gathered in Wendel's Elm Park for a picnic, concert, and speeches. This first Labor Day celebration was eagerly organized and executed by New York’s Central Labor Union.
For many decades Labor Day was viewed by workers not only as means to celebrate their accomplishments. For many the holidays are time for family picnics and sporting.
    What do people do?
Labor Day is a federal holiday. all Government offices, schools and organizations and many businesses are closed because it is a day of rest, or the chance for many people to go on trips. In some neighborhoods, people organize fireworks displays, barbecues and public arts or sports events.
Traditionally, people did not wear white clothes after Labor day but this custom is slowly dying out, more people now wear white all year round.
Labor Day is a day for families to get together for parades, picnics, barbeques, swimming, and ice cream. It is a day for friends and family to celebrate.
